Sustainable travelling
We all know that travelling can be a carbon emission bonanza, particularly air travel, so we have put down some ideas on how we can make travelling more sustainable.
STAYCATIONStay where you are! The best way to be sustainable is to see what you got on your doorstep. Here in Dorset we are lucky to LIVE IN A HOLIDAY DESTINATION! So why bother going anywhere else? There are such a wide range of things to do in our area that in reality we don’t need to leave the county. Check out the Visit Dorset website

TRAVEL BY TRAINIf we are to go somewhere else, consider the option of taking the train rather than flying. There are so many places we can get to by train within and from the UK. Why fly to Manchester when we got a 4 hours direct intercity train from Bournemouth. By the time you have travelled to and from the airport you’ve spent 4 hours anyway. |
Going to Europe, have you looked into buying an interrail pass? We are so lucky to have the Eurostar train in London, allowing us to travel to Brussel, Paris, Amsterdam, Lille within a couple of hours only. And from there you can get to the rest of Europe north or south. You can travel to Germany within a day, you can even get as far as to Copenhagen within a day, as one of our wastebusters experienced.
